Onboard MS Caledonian Sky, Fijian marine biologists play an essential part of every journey. Guided diving, snorkelling and onboard lectures create the ideal setting for hands-on learning by experience; guests enjoy up-close encounters with marine life while travelling through over 90 reefs and islands across its itineraries; they may also partake in Citizen Science activities by recording fish or coral sightings via our dedicated iNaturalist Captain Cook Cruises marine project platform.
Tivua Island guests have participated in our rewarding Citizen Science initiative known as ‘Buy a Coral, Build a Reef’ through hand planting thousands of coral fragments which then mature and are then planted back onto our reef system. Visits to Tivua are included on several multi-day itineraries aboard ship while day sail opportunities provide mainland visitors the chance to contribute in this rewarding project.
Captain Cook Cruises Fiji Executive Chair Alison Haworth West said guests on board their cruise would have an unparalleled opportunity to learn and take an active part in revitalizing reef systems in Fiji and throughout South Pacific nations.
“Participating in our ocean protection is crucial, so engaging our guests makes an enormous impactful statement about their commitment,” according to Mrs. Haworth West.
Dr Alison Green, an esteemed marine biologist of over 30 years of experience, will join the Northern Lau departure on June 8 to lend support in conserving coral reef conservation and management around the globe, along with coral reef fish ecology monitoring, designing marine protected areas (MPA) in accordance with human needs and nature preservation.
