Caleb Williams Gets Honest About His Relationship With Ben Johnson

The Chicago Bears had a chance to start over last season.

They could’ve hired an offensive-minded head coach to get a clean slate with Caleb Williams and their newcomers.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case, and they may have wasted the first year of his development.

That’s why they made sure that didn’t happen again, and why they were quite aggressive to get Ben Johnson in town.

And while they have yet to take the field with this new regime, it seems like Johnson and his quarterback have hit it off.

When asked about his relationship with the head coach, Williams gushed about Johnson and how they’ve made sure to build a strong bond ahead of their first campaign together (via Ryan Garcia):

“Ben Johnson, he uses some choice words every day toward me. He’s tough, and I love him. He’s awesome. It’s great being around him. We hang out in his office, and we just have lunch sometimes, things like that. We’re building this bond and relationship to be able to last a while. I know Bears fans, it’s year after year typically, or every other year, where coaches and quarterbacks specifically are in and out, and our goal is to be here for a while,” Williams said.

Johnson was the most sought-after head coach in this hiring cycle.

He turned down some opportunities last season because he felt that he still had some unfinished business with the Detroit Lions.

And while the team didn’t win the Super Bowl as some expected, Johnson kept turning heads with his creativity and playcalling.

Now, he will have an opportunity to develop one of the most promising and talented quarterbacks the game has ever seen.

The Bears also made sure to give him a better offensive line after watching him be the most-sacked quarterback in the league last season.

It’s an exciting time to root for the Bears, and while they still have to prove they’re better, they look like a legitimate threat right now, at least on paper.
