Butler Hurt After Awkward Landing

The Golden State Warriors faced a frightening moment Monday night when forward Jimmy Butler left the floor with a right knee injury during a game against the Miami Heat at Chase Center. Butler went up to catch a pass in the paint and came down awkwardly after contact with Heat guard Davion Mitchell. He grimaced and grabbed his knee before falling to the floor. Teammates quickly surrounded him as play stopped.

Butler stayed down for several moments before teammates Buddy Hield and Jonathan Kuminga helped him up. He could not put weight on the leg and was slowly escorted to the locker room. Warriors staff later ruled him out for the remainder of the game due to the knee issue.

Before leaving, Butler had been efficient and active. He scored 17 points, added four assists, and grabbed three rebounds in 21 minutes with six made field goals on 11 attempts.

MRI Scheduled, Team Awaits Word on Severity

The Warriors immediately sent Butler for an MRI exam to determine the severity of his knee injury. The club did not release details on the scan results but confirmed the procedure.

Star teammate Stephen Curry described the mood after the game as concerned and said he was hoping for good scan news. “Praying for the best, as far as scans and everything,” Curry told reporters as he expressed support for Butler.

Impact on the Warriors’ Season

Butler’s injury comes at a critical point. Golden State has built momentum with a strong stretch of wins, climbing in the Western Conference playoff race. But losing a core scorer and veteran leader could change the team’s outlook.

Butler has been a vital complement to Curry this season. Before the injury, he averaged over 20 points per game, shot efficiently, and brought physical defense.

What Happens Next

The Warriors now wait for the MRI results to clarify Butler’s status. If he misses significant time, Golden State must adjust rotations and roles. The team could turn to younger players or explore moves before the Feb. 5 trade deadline to add depth. Coaches and players alike emphasize staying resilient, but the loss of Butler would be a major test for this Warriors group.
