Bruno Fernandes named Premier League Player of the Season

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League player of the season after an outstanding campaign for the Old Trafford club.

The Portugal midfielder recently also collected the Football Writers’ Association men’s Player of the Year award following his influential performances throughout the season.

Fernandes equalled the record for most assists in a single Premier League season when he registered his 20th assist against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

The 31-year-old has also scored eight league goals in 37 appearances to help Manchester United finish third and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Fernandes leads Premier League chance creation charts

Fernandes has created more chances than any other player in the Premier League this season with 132, finishing 43 clear of Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai in second place.

He becomes the first Manchester United player to win the award since former captain Nemanja Vidic claimed the honour in 2011.

The winner was decided through a combination of public votes and selections from a panel of football experts.

Other shortlisted players included Arsenal trio David Raya, Gabriel Magalhaes and Declan Rice, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, Brentford forward Igor Thiago and Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

Manchester United conclude their Premier League campaign away to Brighton on Sunday.
