Broader US stock indices close higher but still down for the fourth consecutive week

The broader US stock indices closed sharply higher on the day, but were still down for the fourth consecutive week.

  • S&P index rose 117.42 points or 2.13% at 5638.94
  • NASDAQ index rose 451.07 points or 2.61% at 17754.09

Each of those indices have closed lower for 4-consecutive weeks

  • The S&P index fell by -2.27% this week. The prior three weeks have seen declines of -1.66%, -0.90% and -3.10%.
  • The NASDAQ index fell by -2.43% this week. The prior three weeks of seen declines of -2.1% -3.47%, and -2.43%.

For the Dow industrial average, it rose 634.62 points or 1.65% at 41488.79. For the trading week, the index fell -3.07%. The Russell 2000 rose by 2.53% today but fell by -1.512% for the week.

Each of the Magnificent 7 rose today, but were mixed for the week

  • Nvidia rose 5.27% today and was higher by 7.97% for the week
  • Meta rose by 2.87% today, but was lower by -2.89% for the week
  • Microsoft rose by 2.58% today, but was lower by 1-21% for the week.
  • Amazon rose by 2.09% today, but was lower by -0.65% for the week.
  • Apple rose by 1.82% today, but fell sharply by -10.7% for the week
  • Tesla rose by 3.86% today, but fell by -4.83% for the week.
  • Alphabet rose by 1.68% today, but fell by -4.81% for the week

For the year to date:

  • Dow industrial average is down -2.48%
  • S&P index is down -4.13%
  • NASDAQ index is down -8.06%.
  • Russell 2000 is down -8.34%
