The Brewers announced that left-hander Nestor Cortes has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a flexor strain in his throwing elbow. Southpaw Grant Wolfram was called up from Triple-A to take Cortes’ spot on the active roster.
Cortes was effective and seemingly healthy coming out of his last outing, when he tossed six innings of shutout ball against the Reds in Milwaukee’s 1-0 win on April 3. Unfortunately, Cortes now faces what might be a lengthy stint on the IL depending on the severity of the strain. It is safe to guess that he’ll miss more than the minimum 15 days simply due to caution over elbow-related injuries, and Cortes and the Brewers can only hope that the flexor strain isn’t a harbinger of a more serious issue.
More to come…
