Ben Johnson Says He’s ‘Blown Away’ By 1 Bears Rookie

The Chicago Bears surprised many when they took Colston Loveland with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Most experts had Tyler Warren as the first tight end off the board, but the Bears clearly had higher hopes for Loveland.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to do much because of a shoulder injury, but he’s still made a strong impression.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson recently gushed about Loveland’s work ethic and how involved he’s been despite not being on the field.

“I can tell you from the moment he’s gotten into the building, I’m just blown away by how he approaches everything. I don’t think there’s a guy I saw in the building more this summer than him. It’s really a credit for who he wants to be. He’s attacking the rehab hard. He wants to be a factor here this fall,” Johnson said, via JGFC.

Loveland has been cleared to practice, so he will no longer be an observer.

The Bears will most likely take things slowly at training camp after he sat out rookie minicamp, OTAs and mandatory minicamp.

He could be ready to play by Week 1, but the team will most likely ease him into the offense before giving him more responsibilities.

Johnson compared Loveland to Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta, who became a star when Johnson was their offensive coordinator.

The coach clearly prefers a type of tight end, and after watching LaPorta with the Lions, Bears fans should be optimistic about Loveland’s future.

The Bears’ offense has been a talking point for years, not for the best reasons.

That could change now that they have one of the most creative offensive minds at their disposal and talented weapons around quarterback Caleb Williams.
