Ben Johnson Has Honest Admission About Caleb Williams’ Development

The Chicago Bears went to great lengths this offseason to make sure that Caleb Williams had everything he needed to take a leap in his second year.

From a revamped offensive line to receiving weapons like Luther Burden III and Colston Loveland, all the way to hiring Ben Johnson as head coach, every move was made with the quarterback in mind.

However, even though the team’s current struggles aren’t all on him, the No. 1 pick from the 2024 NFL Draft has failed to impress in the first two games of this season.

Nevertheless, Johnson does see some encouraging signs of improvement.

“He took a big step from Week 1 to Week 2. I’m expecting the same from Week 2 to Week 3. His approach to the game right now is what it needs to be. He’s coming in and doing the work. Eventually these results will speak for themselves. As long as he keeps putting in the work, we’ll be OK,” Johnson said.

Williams has all the necessary physical skills, but he needs to make better decisions.

He makes too many erratic and wild throws, and he has yet to learn that those aren’t going to get the job done in the NFL.

He also needs to tone down his deep throws.

He’s got a strong arm, but he doesn’t need to go for the big play on every dropback.

He’s also missed wide-open receivers because of his tendency to overthrow the ball.

But despite all that, he’s definitely worth showing some patience.

It’s way too early to give up on such a talented player.

The key to his development will be to ensure that he learns from his mistakes, which hasn’t always seemed to be the case.
