The Chicago Bears‘ defense has been pretty banged up this season. They haven’t been as dominant as they were during the Matt Eberflus era, but even despite the struggles to stay on the field, they’re still sitting on an 8-3 record.

Of course, most of the chatter has revolved around the offense, and rightfully so. Caleb Williams has taken big steps forward with head coach Ben Johnson at the helm, and they have a myriad of promising players there.

However, as shown by Jordan Schultz on X, their defense also deserves a shoutout. More than that, CB Nahshon Wright should get more credit than he’s gotten.

Through 10 starts, the young cornerback has logged a whopping five interceptions. He also has 49 tackles, 10 passes defended, and two fumble recoveries. Yet it seems like no one has brought up his name as a potential candidate for Defensive Player of the Year.

The Bears’ defense has been elite at flipping the field and creating turnovers this season. They have shown a great nose for football, and Wright alone has been responsible for seven takeaways.

Of course, some continue to overlook this team because of their somewhat easy schedule. They’ve caught plenty of breaks, especially in terms of the quarterbacks they’ve had to face this season.

But even though that makes sense and it’s a valid concern, you can only beat whoever is in front of you. The numbers don’t lie. If anything, they show that this has been one of the most improved teams in all of football this season.
