Bank of America on tariff inflation – expects a10% price rise for PCs

Bank of America on just one of the inflation impacts US consumers can expect:

  • “If tariffs of 10–25% are imposed, PC makers like Dell, HP, and Apple will likely pass the added costs onto buyers, raising prices by at least 10% in the US or raise prices across more geos by a lower magnitude,”
  • The price increases could be demand destructive as buyers hesitate on upgrades
  • tariffs could also create broader supply chain instability
  • a further escalation of tariffs would likely see China introducing reciprocal tariffs that could further exacerbate supply chain issues

I posted yesterday on a Fed official shrugging off a danger sign on inflation … a 30 year high:

This head in the sand approach risks another delayed response from the Fed, just like the ‘transitory’ debacle that subsequently led to rapid and sustained rate hikes. I hope I’m wrong.
