Match Preview for Augsburg v Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich will look to pile the pressure on Bayer Leverkusen by beating Augsburg tomorrow night.
Vincent Kompany’s men currently hold a six-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga as they attempt to wrestle the title back from Leverkusen, who are second.
Leverkusen go to Heidenheim on Saturday and know they can ill-afford to fall further behind heading into matchday 28 of 34.
Augsburg will be no pushovers, though. They sit eighth and are still in contention to qualify for a European spot next season, thanks largely to an unbeaten league run that now sits at 11 games.
They will fancy their chances against a Bayern side that have not looked entirely convincing in recent weeks.
A stunning home defeat to struggling Bochum was followed by a 1-1 draw at Union Berlin and a scrappy 3-2 win over St Pauli.
Kompany knows his side will have to be better in Augsburg. He said: “It’s traditionally not an easy game for Bayern – they haven’t lost in 11 games and have conceded very few goals. But that’s also a good thing because everyone knows it’s a difficult away game. If we perform well, we can pick up points.
“We can always go into games full of confidence. We know we’ll always get our chances.”

Kompany’s Augsburg counterpart Jess Thorup was in bullish mood when he spoke to the media and outlined the stature of the game for him and the club.
He said: “It’s an important game for our fans, a derby. We’re playing at home in front of a sold-out crowd, and we want to make the match as evenly matched as possible to score points on Friday.
“The anticipation for the match is great: under floodlights, what more could a player want? We have a lot of self-confidence from 11 unbeaten matches in a row – and that is exactly the self-confidence that counts now against FC Bayern.”
Team News for Augsburg v Bayern Munich
The home side have no injury concerns with few, if any, changes expected from the side that drew 1-1 at Hoffenheim last weekend.
Thorup said: “In short, we have all our players at our disposal, so we can draw on the full squad on Friday evening.”
It’s a little more complicated for Bayern with a host of players absent.
Alphonso Davies is out long-term while Dayot Upamecano is targeting the Club World Cup in the summer for his comeback.
Bayern’s defensive stocks were further depleted by Hiroki Itō sustaining a metatarsal fracture last weekend.
“A few players have trained individually indoors, but they should be available,” said Kompany. “The lads who weren’t available against St Pauli won’t be available against Augsburg either.”
There has been speculation this week that Bayern would not offer veteran midfielder Thomas Muller a new deal at the end of the season but he should be in the squad tomorrow night.
