The NYPD is preparing an internal review of the police shooting, and officials said footage from officers’ body cameras will be made public. ABC News Top Stories reported that police fatally shot the suspect after two people were stabbed in Times Square. Police identified the woman as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros of Queens, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the review and video release would follow the incident. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Cisneros had a documented mental health history, while police officials said the attack did not appear to be terror-related. The stabbings occurred near 41st Street and Seventh Avenue on Aug. 31, 2026, with the victims attacked within 20 seconds of one another, according to Tisch.
Police said the first victim was a 68-year-old man who had recently left the subway and was waiting to cross with his wife. The second victim, a 32-year-old woman, died at a hospital from her injuries, police said. The other victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later described by officials as stable.
According to Tisch, Cisneros allegedly removed two knives from a bag before attacking the first victim in the abdomen. Police said she then moved along Seventh Avenue toward 42nd Street and allegedly stabbed the other victim in the abdomen. Authorities said Cisneros ran north toward an NYPD substation, where witnesses alerted officers to her presence.
Tisch said officers faced her for four minutes and issued repeated instructions to put down the knife, but she refused. Officers first used Tasers, after which two officers fired their service weapons, according to Tisch. Police recovered two knives at the scene, and the NYPD released a photograph of them. Mamdani thanked the officers during the briefing, saying their intervention stopped the violence from becoming worse.
