Analyst Names ‘Most Overrated’ Team In NFL

The New England Patriots enter the 2025 season facing significant questions about their roster construction and playoff potential.

While the franchise’s storied history typically commands respect around the league, recent roster moves and concerning injury reports have sparked debate about whether this team can compete at a high level.

Analyst Andy Hart delivered a particularly harsh assessment of the Patriots’ current state during a recent radio appearance.

“They’re suddenly cutting talent. Some of the talent that I thought would be on the roster, some of the veteran talent, some of the best 53 players – no longer on the roster. […] I said it in May, the Patriots were the most overrated team in football. When everybody was penciling them in for the playoffs, I feel even stronger about it now. The Patriots were the most overrated team in football. Now they could be a low single-digit win team again,” Hart said on WEEI Afternoons.

The criticism comes as New England trimmed over 20 players to reach the mandatory 53-man roster limit.

Among the casualties were linebacker R.J. Moten, defensive tackle Kyle Peko, running backs Shane Watts and JaMycal Hasty, and safety Jabrill Peppers.

These veteran cuts surprised many observers who expected several of these players to contribute this season.

Health concerns add another layer of uncertainty.

Christian Gonzalez hasn’t practiced in weeks, raising questions about his availability for Week 1.

Meanwhile, high-profile free agent addition Stefon Diggs has yet to take the field during camp.

The Patriots finished last season with a disappointing 4-13 record.

Their free agent signings haven’t made the expected impact during the preseason, and inconsistent performances from new additions have only amplified concerns about immediate improvement.

The combination of roster turnover, injury concerns, and underwhelming preseason showings has created doubt about whether New England possesses the depth necessary for a grueling NFL campaign.
