The Green Bay Packers entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations. After Micah Parsons’ arrival and victories in their first two games, some were even talking about an undefeated season.
Fast forward to today, and fans and analysts might not feel the same way about them. The Packers have been inconsistent, especially on offense, and they’re also banged up. That being said, they still have most of the pieces any team needs to win the championship.
With that in mind, analyst Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report made a case for the Packers as contenders.
“There are few holes on a balanced and talented roster, and this team now has the experience to make a run,” Gagnon wrote. “Verdict: Contender*. The Packers get an asterisk like the [Baltimore] Ravens. Can the up-and-down and oft-injured Jordan Love string together multiple January victories over elite opponents? Not sure I see it right now.”
Green Bay should be much more dangerous on offense. Love is playing the best and most efficient football of his career, yet it feels like head coach Matt LaFleur is holding him back. He doesn’t want the quarterback putting the ball in harm’s way, and while that makes sense, Love is not being used to the best of his abilities.
The Packers have also struggled with a subpar offensive line this season. They have failed to create any sort of running lanes, with running back Josh Jacobs often getting hit at or behind the line of scrimmage.
Even so, they have the weapons to be much better, and with plenty of time left, there’s no reason to believe they can’t turn the corner. The Packers have already shown how dangerous they can be when they’re at their best.
