The Green Bay Packers looked like the best team in football in the first two weeks of the season.
Unfortunately, that run was short-lived, and they fell back to earth in the next two weeks.
That’s why Alex Kay of Bleacher Report isn’t so high on them anymore.
As much as he’s still confident in their ability to make the playoffs, he no longer thinks of them as the team to beat.
“NFC Wild Card / No. 6 Seed,” Kay wrote. “One week after a stunning defeat to the [Cleveland] Browns, the Packers’ prime-time battle with the [Dallas] Cowboys led to the league’s first tie since 2022. While having a draw on the record books may not be ideal for a team that aspires to win a hyper-competitive NFC North race, Green Bay at least avoided being upset for the second consecutive week. The Packers should bounce back and make the playoff field, but their recent play isn’t inspiring confidence in a Super Bowl run.”
The Packers have the resources to turn things around, but they need to solve some issues.
First, they need to get healthy.
The offense is missing linemen Aaron Banks and Zach Tom, and wide receivers Christian Watson and Jayden Reed.
They also need to fix their special teams.
Rich Bisaccia’s unit ranks near the bottom of the league in most categories, and that has been a recurring issue for years.
Last but not least, head coach Matt LaFleur needs to make better decisions.
He’s an outstanding play designer, and his offense is swift and efficient, yet he doesn’t seem to pick his spots very well.
He’s been aggressive when he needs to be conservative, and conservative when he needs to take chances.
The Packers are stacked with young talent, and they’re closer to what they showed in Weeks 1 and 2 than to the team they were in Weeks 3 and 4.
They just have to prove it going forward.
