The Atlanta Falcons are 1-1, but they are one missed field goal away from being 2-0.
They look much more polished on offense with Michael Penix Jr. at quarterback.
However, their defense is what could take them to new heights.
For the first time in a long while, the Falcons have a solid pass rush.
That’s why analyst Ross Tucker believes they can be a legitimate threat in the playoffs.
“Their defense was incredible, and I have faith in their offense. I think their offense has enough good players with [Drake] London, and [Kyle] Pitts has been better, and Bijan Robinson. I think the Falcons, just based on how well their defense played, these guys are going to be a factor in the playoffs till the very end. I’m impressed by this Falcons squad,” Tucker said.

The Falcons have struggled to get to the quarterback in prior seasons, but they’re now excelling at putting pressure on the opponent.
Granted, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were missing their starting left tackle in Week 1, and the interior of the Minnesota Vikings’ offensive line has been an issue dating to last season, but Atlanta’s Week 2 win was impressive nonetheless.
The Falcons have also done a solid job against some very good playmakers.
They first need to prove that they can take down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the team to beat in the NFC South, but the early returns are encouraging.
Penix is also taking care of the football, and if he can stay healthy, he should only get more comfortable within the offense.
After years of inconsistency, the Falcons are trending in the right direction.
