The Chicago Bears will start their season without one of their best players.
Star cornerback Jaylon Johnson missed training camp and the preseason with what was an undisclosed injury.
Now, with Week 1 at hand, he finally revealed that he was dealing with a significant groin injury sustained before training camp.
Though he’s closer to getting back on the field, he talked about the struggle of watching his teammates from the sidelines.
“It has definitely been a journey,” Johnson said. “It has been frustrating, going in the training room to the weight room, back to the training room for six, seven, eight weeks now. So, I mean, for me, it’s just a mental test, but I’m coming out better.”
Johnson was recently cleared to get back to practice, but his ability to face the Minnesota Vikings is uncertain.
He has a little more time to get ready, as the Bears begin their season on “Monday Night Football.”
Chicago made some big moves in the offseason, headlined by hiring Ben Johnson as its head coach.
The offense failed to make a splash despite a lot of talent and hype last season, but with a better play-calling situation and a revamped offensive line, it’s expected to fare much better this year.
The Bears had a solid defense under Matt Eberflus, and getting Johnson back to full strength will be crucial to their playoff aspirations.
