Galatasaray closing in on signing Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Galatasaray over the transfer of Ilkay Gundogan, according to reports in Germany.

The move would mark another high-profile departure from Pep Guardiola’s squad, following Kevin De Bruyne’s exit earlier this summer, with Ederson and Manuel Akanji also expected to leave before the transfer deadline.

Sky Germany and Fabrizio Romano report that City and Galatasaray have already agreed terms, though the exact details remain undisclosed.

The deal now hinges on Gundogan finalising personal terms with the Turkish champions, who are offering a reported €5 million net salary.

The 33-year-old midfielder still has a year remaining on his City contract, having rejoined the club in 2024 after terminating his Barcelona deal to aid the Catalans’ financial situation.

Gundogan has previously expressed an interest in playing for Galatasaray, and optimism is growing that the transfer will be completed in the coming days.

The move comes after Galatasaray failed to land City goalkeeper Ederson earlier this summer, with the Brazilian now bound for fierce rivals Fenerbahce.

Securing Gundogan, however, would represent a major statement of intent from the reigning Super Lig champions.

For City, losing both Gundogan and De Bruyne within the same window would leave Guardiola’s side almost unrecognisable from the one that lifted multiple Premier League and Champions League titles in recent years.
