Insider Believes Jets Will Address Big Roster Concern With Waiver Wire

The New York Jets have some major issues to solve before the start of the season.

There are doubts about quarterback Justin Fields and whether he has what it takes to get the team over the hump.

With that in mind, they could make his life easier with a late addition at one position in particular.

“Tight end is a position that I think they’re going to be actively looking at on the waiver wire. I would think they’re going to look for someone who’s a good blocker or someone who just brings more in the passing game,” insider Zack Blatt said.

Of course, there aren’t many high-end options available at this point, as players who failed to make a 53-man roster were cut for a reason.

So, whoever the Jets can add is unlikely to make a big impact.

Even so, teams need to have depth, and another blocking tight end could come in handy for an offense that will rely on its running game.

Head coach Aaron Glenn teased using a three-man committee, and Fields has always been more efficient with his legs than with his arm.

The QB has raised some concerns with his erratic passing throughout training camp and in preseason games.

All things considered, this might be his final opportunity to prove that he’s got what it takes to lead an NFL team to success.

As such, the Jets need to do whatever they can to give him a chance to succeed.
