Insider Highlights ‘Name To Watch’ As NFL Free Agent

The start of the NFL season is just around the corner.

Most teams will continue to make marginal moves in the next few days, taking advantage of final roster cuts.

In addition, there are still a handful of unsigned veterans who could make a significant impact.

ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler mentioned a veteran pass rusher to keep an eye on.

“With free agency picking up a bit this week, one name to watch is Za’Darius Smith, who finished with nine sacks last year. Multiple contending teams have checked in on Smith, who is training and waiting on the right situation,” Fowler wrote on X.

A Pro Bowl player for the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings, Smith didn’t reach that status with the Cleveland Browns last season, but he was a serviceable contributor.

Then, he was traded to the Detroit Lions to help replace injured star Aidan Hutchinson.

Multiple teams could use more pass-rushing depth, and it might not take a lot to convince Smith if the situation is right.

The Washington Commanders seem to be a logical destination.

They failed to sign DeMarcus Lawrence this offseason and ultimately settled on Von Miller.

Adding Smith to the mix could help a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, so he may not be on the market much longer.
