Former Player Raises Big Concern About Justin Fields

The New York Jets want to get to the next level.

For that to happen, they need their offense to be significantly better than it has been in recent seasons.

However, that may not happen with Justin Fields at quarterback.

Talking on WFAN Sports Radio, former Jets offensive lineman Willie Colon said that Fields doesn’t have the upside necessary to transform a team.

“He’s a player that comes with instructions. He can do good things, but it’s limited,” Colon said.

There have been some worrisome reports coming out of Jets training camp.

Fields has never been known for his passing skills, and he’s reportedly missed wide-open receivers throughout camp.

That’s a major concern for a team that’s desperately craving some improvement at quarterback.

Fields is a gifted athlete who can run with the best of them.

His athleticism, speed and strength are mesmerizing, yet it takes much more than that to succeed against an NFL defense.

Fields has raised major doubts with his decision-making and inability to read coverages.

Then again, it’s also worth noting that he has never been given full freedom to play the style that suits him.

This will most likely be his final opportunity to prove that he can be a starting quarterback in the NFL.

Likewise, it will have plenty to do with how the Jets utilize him.

They need to put him in a position to succeed, and that will most likely require leaning on the running game.
