Dianna Russini Shuts Down Big Rumor About Patriots

The New England Patriots want to get back to their winning ways, and while they’ve taken big steps toward that goal, they still have some improvements to make.

Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean they will go all-out to get that done, at least not before Week 1.

“From conversations I’ve been having, I don’t sense that New England is close on a deal for any of the NFL’s disgruntled stars at this time,” Dianna Russini of The Athletic wrote on X.

That comes on the heels of the rumors surrounding Trey Hendrickson.

The Cincinnati Bengals reportedly are open to trading their All-Pro pass rusher, but their asking price is high.

It’s ironic to see that a player they believe is valuable as a trade asset is not as valuable when it comes to paying him market value.

Hendrickson led the NFL with 17.5 sacks last season.

He could be just what the doctor ordered for a Patriots team that will look to reclaim its defensive identity and win games in the trenches.

Yet, they might feel like they have what they need at this point in the preseason.

That’s not to say that they won’t reconsider that stance if the right offer appears or the right player becomes available.

But unless the Bengals lower their asking price, or the Patriots get off to a slow start, that’s not going to happen anytime soon.
