The NFL features some of the biggest, toughest and strongest athletes in sports.
However, every now and then, a tweener manages to make his way to the league.
That might be the case with San Francisco 49ers cornerback Jakob Robinson.
Despite his tiny frame by NFL standards, the undrafted rookie has turned heads during training camp.
Niners defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has taken notice of him in his return.
“The game’s not too big for [Jakob Robinson]. … I think he’s gotten the attention of the entire organization in terms of how he works and how he approaches it,” Saleh said, via the San Francisco Chronicle.
Robinson weighed 163 pounds in his final year at BYU.
So, it wasn’t a surprise that he wasn’t invited to the NFL Scouting Combine or wasn’t selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Standing 5-foot-10, he had a 38.5-inch vertical jump and ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at his pro day.
His vertical would’ve ranked highly among defensive backs at the combine, and his 40-yard dash would’ve tied for the eighth fastest.
Robinson reportedly is up to 181 pounds.
He might never be the biggest or the strongest player out there, but his work ethic and determination to fulfill his dreams make him play with an edge and a hunger not many have.
He still has to prove that he belongs, and it’ll be interesting to see if he can make the 53-man roster.
