The Indianapolis Colts have been on shaky ground ever since Andrew Luck retired, and there is mounting pressure on the current regime to show some notable improvements in 2025 on the heels of another lackluster campaign that saw them miss the playoffs for a fourth consecutive year.

This season’s roster is being rounded out, and the Colts made a few moves to help provide a bit of clarity.

“The Colts sign Tre Herndon and Duke Shelley, placed David Long Jr. on injured reserve and released Albert Okwuegbunam Jr.,” Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston wrote on X.

Herndon could be a good pickup at cornerback with Long injured, as he was a solid rotational piece for the Jacksonville Jaguars for six seasons prior to playing one game for the New Orleans Saints in 2024.

Shelley is a cornerback with six years of experience in the NFL, and he is another option in the secondary as the Colts try to improve what was a major weak point on the roster.

Long has been a rotational cornerback since being selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played 13 games for the Colts last season.

Okwuegbunam, a tight end, hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2023 season with the Philadelphia Eagles, and it’s looking like his career may be on the ropes after being cut.

The Colts have solid depth at tight end, especially after adding Tyler Warren in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, so moving on from Okwuegbunam was not a surprise.
