Trump and Mexico extend trade deal for 90 days after productive call

President Trump announced a productive phone call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, emphasizing improved mutual understanding.

  • The U.S. and Mexico have agreed to extend the current trade terms for 90 days, including a 25% tariff on fentanyl, 25% on cars, and 50% on steel, aluminum, and copper.
  • Mexico also agreed to immediately eliminate its non-tariff trade barriers.
  • The two nations will work toward finalizing a broader trade deal within or beyond the 90-day window.

The call included top U.S. officials such as VP JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and others. Both sides also reaffirmed border cooperation on security, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration.

The Deal Maker is dealing, but this is a wide angle framework that kicks the can down the road ahead of the August 1 date.
