Andy Reid Reveals Rashee Rice’s Status In Preseason

The Kansas City Chiefs only had Rashee Rice on the field for four games last season.

A major knee injury ended what was expected to be a breakout campaign.

Now, his involvement in a multi-car crash will most likely result in an NFL suspension.

Nevertheless, head coach Andy Reid will continue to take the same approach to Rice’s preseason preparation.

“That’s obvious news out there, now. We’re going to progress as normal with him. He’ll go in and take all the reps that he’d normally take, and we always rotate that position. So, depending on what happens here in the future, whoever needs to play will be able to step in. They’ll know what they’re doing and be in good shape to do it,” Reid said, via Pete Sweeney.

After pleading guilty, Rice was given a 30-day jail sentence, which he can serve at any point of a five-year probation period.

That means he’s not likely to serve it at any point of the NFL season, but the league can suspend him.

The Chiefs will need second-year wideout Xavier Worthy to take a leap after a promising rookie campaign, and Marquise Brown should also be in for a big role now that he’s back to full strength.

The Chiefs’ offense hasn’t been as explosive over the past two seasons, since Eric Bieniemy moved on from his role as their offensive coordinator.

Reclaiming that offensive dominance will be crucial to winning another Super Bowl.

As such, losing Rice again will be a big blow to their aspirations, even if it’s just for part of the regular season.
