The Jacksonville Jaguars always had their sights set on Travis Hunter, and they went to great lengths to get him.

Now, they’ve doubled down on their commitment to their new star by giving him a record-breaking contract.

As reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Colorado product has officially signed his four-year, $46.65 million contract.

He did so while getting a $30.57 million signing bonus, which was paid entirely upfront.

With this move, he’s now become the first non-quarterback not drafted with the No. 1 pick to get his entire signing bonus upfront.

Schefter also adds that the deal was negotiated by Ray Haija and Adie von Gontard of Young Money APAA Sports.

This speaks volumes about the Jaguars’ level of commitment to their No. 2 selection.

Most scouts agreed that Hunter was the best player in this class.

He was the highest-ranked cornerback and the highest-ranked wide receiver, two positions the Jaguars happened to need help with.

They gave up a king’s ransom to trade up from No. 5 to No. 2, even sending the Cleveland Browns a future first-round pick in next year’s seemingly strong draft class.

Hunter is a generational talent, and he’s made it loud and clear that he intends to play on both sides of the field as a pro.

Acquiring him was also a bold move by new GM James Gladstone to send a message and let everybody know that the Jaguars won’t be afraid to swing for the fences while he’s in charge.

Now, it’ll be up to Hunter to prove that he was worth all the effort and resources.
