The NFL offseason has given Adam Schefter an unexpected opportunity to explore uncharted territory.
The ESPN insider traded his usual role of breaking NFL news for something completely different on Thursday, making his debut as an on-course reporter during PGA Tour Live’s coverage at TPC River Highlands.
Schefter didn’t ease into his new assignment either. He was tasked with following Masters champion Rory McIlroy and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley throughout their round.
Later appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Schefter opened up about the experience and what it felt like stepping into unfamiliar territory.
“Honestly, one of the thrills of a lifetime. It was incredible to be alongside Mark Damron right there. He was kind of telling me where I could and couldn’t walk. My great fear was that I would walk into somebody’s backswing, be in the fairway, and get drilled in the side of the head with some four iron like you don’t know what’s going to happen,” Schefter said.

The veteran reporter’s golf debut showcased a different side of his broadcasting skills.
Rather than his typical commanding presence breaking NFL stories, Schefter adapted to golf’s quieter atmosphere with soft whispers into the microphone.
His attire reflected the crossover nature of his assignment. Schefter wore a bold orange shirt featuring both the PGA Tour Live logo and an ESPN emblem, bridging his two worlds for the day.
The NFL insider chose to stay in the background rather than seek the spotlight, often positioning himself in shaded areas away from the main action.
Both McIlroy and Bradley delivered impressive performances during Schefter’s maiden golf reporting voyage.
