The New York Jets moved on from Aaron Rodgers and are turning to Justin Fields.
For years, many have talked about Fields’ untapped potential, physical traits and whether he can take a step forward or not.
He has shown glimpses of great play and is one of the most athletic and strongest players at the position.
Nevertheless, his football IQ, vision and inability to read and break down coverages have left a lot to be desired.
That’s why NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell believes there is still a path for Fields to be a star.
“Fields, to me, is one of the most intriguing quarterbacks because the physical traits are so high-level, but I think for whatever reason … he just doesn’t see it the way you want a quarterback to see it. But I think coaches always feel they can get a quarterback to do that. I mean, you’re dealing with a guy who’s [6-foot-3], 230 [pounds], big arm, powerful runner, gives you the quarterback run game, which has become increasingly important in this league. So, I think there’s a feeling that we can work with Justin Fields. … Maybe he’s never going to be a 70-percent-completion guy, but we can turn him into a force at the quarterback position,” Cosell said on “The Ross Tucker Podcast.”

To be fair, Fields has never been put in a real position to succeed with the Chicago Bears or Pittsburgh Steelers.
He’s never had an offense built around his strengths, as he’s always been much more efficient when rolling out of the pocket.
He’s one of the best scramblers in the game, and he’s built like a linebacker, so he’s not going to go down after one hit.
For the first time in his NFL career, a team seems to be fully committed to his skills.
But if things don’t work out this time, it might be time to give up on him as an NFL starter.
