The New England Patriots made a decision.
Unsurprisingly, they chose to double down on Drake Maye as their quarterback for the future, which obviously made Joe Milton III the odd man out.
Eventually, they chose to trade him to the Dallas Cowboys.
However, even though they were competitors, Maye is actually rooting for him.
When asked about his former teammate, the second-year quarterback looked back on their journey entering the league together, and he claimed that he hopes to play against him at some point in the future (via Tom Carroll):
“I texted Joe. Me and Joe came in together. We learned the offense together. We were competing every day to out-throw each other at practice. And obviously he’s got a big arm. So it was cool for him to get a chance to go and be back-up,” he said. “So pulling for Joe – probably play him again, or I’ll see him down the road.”

Milton wowed people with his strong arm and athleticism in limited preseason and regular-season action.
He was one of the most sought-after young quarterbacks in the early stages of the offseason.
Even though he was taken late in the NFL Draft, he showed the potential to be a starter at one point.
He also reportedly thought he deserved a legitimate chance to be the starter, and he thought the Patriots weren’t going to give it to him because they were already sold on Maye.
Now, he will have a big chance to take the Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback job.
Of course, Dak Prescott is making a lot of money, so it wouldn’t be an easy decision.
Then again, the offense looked much better when he was out last season, and he’s coming off a season-ending injury, so he has struggled with ailments in the past.
As for Maye, he will now have to show the Patriots that they chose the right guy for the job.
