Aaron Rodgers Gets Honest About His Departure From Jets

The New York Jets thought and hoped that Aaron Rodgers would put an end to their years-long struggles at the quarterback position.

On paper, even if he wasn’t at his best, he could’ve been the missing piece to propel them to Super Bowl contention.

That clearly wasn’t the case.

His tenure in the Big Apple was rather tumultuous, and it seems like he didn’t leave the team on the best of terms.

As reported by Brooke Pryor, Rodgers recently admitted that he was ‘up front’ with the Jets when he left the team:

“I’ve had a lot of great conversations with a lot of teams. Not one of those was the Jets. That wasn’t a great conversation. … I’ve been up front with all of them,” he said.

There were some reports about a power struggle between Rodgers and GM Joe Douglas.

His relationship with team owner Woody Johnson was also reportedly estranged.

Rodgers didn’t play up to the standards when he was healthy, but he’s not entirely to blame for the Jets’ debacle.

Johnson made some bold decisions, such as firing Robert Saleh so early in the season, and there have been multiple worrisome reports about the workplace culture there.

Some might claim that they gave Rodgers too much power and input because of some of the trades and signings they made, and it’s a fair assessment from afar.

Then again, the Jets have been in the same situation for years, regardless of the quarterback, head coach, general manager, assistant coaches, or the roster as a whole, so one can only wonder who’s more to blame there.

Only time will tell how Justin Fields will fare as his replacement after such a tough two-year stint.
