49ers Are Hosting Promising DE Prospect For Visit

The San Francisco 49ers find themselves navigating a rebuild of their defense this offseason after several key departures.

With their strategic approach to roster construction, the 49ers likely will try to fill some of these gaps in the 2025 NFL Draft.

An important piece of the evaluation process includes a notable prospect visit.

“More visits on the final day they’re permitted before the draft: Texas A&M edge Shemar Stewart is visiting the 49ers,” NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero wrote on X.

Stewart brings impressive physical measurables to the table, standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 291 pounds.

His performance at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine solidified his status as one of the draft’s most athletic edge rushers.

Stewart recorded a 4.59-second 40-yard dash, a 40-inch vertical jump, and a 10-foot-11 broad jump, numbers that showcase his explosive abilities.

Despite these eye-catching athletic traits, Stewart’s college production tells a more modest story.

During three seasons at Texas A&M, he accumulated 65 combined tackles with 12 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.

This creates an interesting evaluation scenario for teams like the 49ers, who must determine if Stewart can transform those physical gifts into consistent on-field production in the NFL.

The timing of this visit makes perfect sense given the 49ers’ defensive line situation.

After parting with Javon Hargrave, Maliek Collins and Leonard Floyd this offseason, the team faces an urgent need to replenish its front seven.

Stewart’s visit gives the organization a valuable opportunity to assess him beyond mere measurements and game film.

The 49ers, who hold the No. 11 overall pick, likely will use this time to evaluate his personality, work ethic and cultural fit within the organization.
