Shaq Griffin Visits Former Team

The Seattle Seahawks have a reloaded roster that includes quarterback Sam Darnold, who is coming off a Pro Bowl campaign in 2024, veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.

They could use a bit of help in the secondary alongside star cornerback Devon Witherspoon, and on Monday, one of their former players visited them.

Shaquill Griffin, a cornerback who made the Pro Bowl in 2019, visited the Seahawks, per Aaron Wilson.

Griffin starred for the University of Central Florida for four seasons, totaling 27 passes defended and six interceptions, before Seattle took him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

By then, Seattle wasn’t the force they were a few years earlier when they came to the brink of back-to-back Super Bowl championships, but Griffin helped keep them competitive.

He had 15 passes defended, two tackles for loss and 59 total tackles (50 solo) as a rookie, and two years later, he made the Pro Bowl by posting 13 passes defended, two tackles for loss and 65 total tackles (45 solo).

He left Seattle following the 2020 season and has since played for four different teams, including the Minnesota Vikings in 2024.

In 2024, Griffin had six passes defended, two interceptions and 41 total tackles (33 solo).

He could provide head coach Mike Macdonald with some depth in the defensive backfield, as well as some insurance.

After unexpectedly making the playoffs in 2022, the Seahawks failed to reach the postseason in both of the last two seasons, and they’re hoping that their new additions will make them more competitive this fall and winter.
