The Las Vegas Raiders defense is undergoing a major transformation heading into 2025, despite keeping defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and most of his coaching staff.
The unit looks drastically different after losing several key starters in free agency, including Tre’von Moehrig, Robert Spillane, Marcus Epps, Divine Deablo, and Nate Hobbs.
Adding to the defensive overhaul, starting cornerback Jack Jones is now being released, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

The team reportedly tried to trade Jones first, but when no deal materialized, they decided to part ways completely.
This move signals a clear shift in direction from the front office.
Jones’ rising cap hit of $3.4 million likely factored into the decision, but the timing raises eyebrows given the team’s limited efforts to strengthen their cornerback position during free agency – especially after already losing Hobbs.
Despite some inconsistent play, Jones started 16 games last season and provided stability in the secondary.
What makes the decision more puzzling is Jones’ strong connection with former head coach Antonio Pierce, who coached him both in high school and at the college level.
The cornerback situation in Las Vegas grows more concerning by the day.
Jakorian Bennett now stands as the only returning starter from last year’s season-opening lineup.
The team holds hope that 2024 draft pick Decamerion Richardson might develop into a contributor, but even if he exceeds expectations, the depth chart remains worryingly thin at the position.
If the Raiders don’t select running back Ashton Jeanty with their first-round pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, they almost certainly need to target a cornerback.
