Barcelona boost as Olmo and Victor cleared to play for the rest of the season

Barcelona’s La Liga title hopes enjoyed a significant boost this afternoon after the Spanish government’s High Sports Council – the CSD – ruled Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor’s registrations were valid for the rest of the season.

The CSD sided with Barca, after the club appealed the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and La Liga’s decision to cancel the pair’s sporting licenses.

Both Olmo and Victor have been playing on temporary licences until a definitive verdict was reached.

The Spanish FA and La Liga sanctioned the pair initially after Barca failed to meet the December 31 deadline for player registrations.

A Barca statement read: “This Thursday, the Superior Sports Council (CSD) has upheld the appeal submitted on January 7 by footballers Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, as well as FC Barcelona, annulling the agreement made by the Monitoring Commission of the RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement.

“According to the CSD’s ruling, “it has been clearly and indisputably established throughout this process, after considering the parties’ arguments, that the Monitoring Commission was not competent to decide on the prior visa, as well as the licence requested by FC Barcelona.

“Therefore, both Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor retain their valid licences and will be able to continue playing matches with the team.

“It should be noted that since January 8, the CSD has granted an urgent precautionary measure that has allowed both players to continue their professional careers normally.”

Barca clear at the top of the league

Olmo is injured currently but would form part of Barca’s best XI when fit.

Hansi Flick’s side are three points clear at the top of La Liga with nine games to go. They face Real Betis at home on Saturday.
