Cardinals Are Signing Former Dolphins DL

The Miami Dolphins had a disappointing 2024 season, during which they won just eight games and missed the playoffs, partly due to a concussion that forced quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to miss four games.

They need some reinforcements on defense, and they were hoping that veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell would stick around for one more year.

But per Ian Rapoport, Campbell is expected to sign a one-year deal to join the Arizona Cardinals.

Campbell, 38, has played 17 seasons in the NFL and has been named to the Pro Bowl six times.

He joined Miami a year ago as a free agent and put up 5.0 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 12 quarterback hits, five passes defended and 52 total tackles (35 solo) during the 2024 season.

In the Cardinals, he would be joining a team that has already fortified its defense this offseason.

Arizona, who also went 8-9 last season, brought in Josh Sweat, a star pass rusher from the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles who posted 8.0 sacks, 15 QB hits and nine tackles for loss in 2024.

They also signed Dalvin Tomlinson, a veteran defensive tackle who logged 18 QB hits and six tackles for loss last season.

Campbell was drafted by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft, and he spent his first nine seasons with them.

During that time, he got his first two Pro Bowl nods in 2014 and 2015, and he also played in the Super Bowl as a rookie, although the Cardinals lost there to the Pittsburgh Steelers in one of the closest contests in Super Bowl history.
