Arsenal v Atletico Madrid: Commentary, updates, goals and stats as Gunners seek place in Champions League final

Arsenal will look to cap a positive few days with victory over Atletico Madrid tonight.

The Gunners stole a march over Premier League title rivals Manchester City over the Bank Holiday weekend, enjoying a routine win over Fulham before sitting back to watch Pep Guardiola’s men require a last-ditch comeback at Everton to secure a 3-3 draw.

Arsenal have a five-point lead at the summit having played a game more and the trophy is now theirs to lose.

They also have the chance to double up domestic success with the biggest title in European football. Last week’s controversial 1-1 first-leg draw against Atletico at the Metropolitano means they are favourites to advance to a Champions League final showdown with either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain, who play tomorrow night.

Boss Mikel Arteta said: “Huge excitement, really hungry. It’s difficult to express the desire to live that moment. Especially with our people in front of them, they’ve been waiting for so long to have these kinds of nights. Push hard, because it’s something amazing that’s going to happen.

“When you are in front of such an opportunity, it means that you are ready to deliver, and the team is going to go from the first minute to go and get that.”
