Manchester United weighing up summer move for Real Madrid star

Aurelien Tchouameni has emerged as a key target for Manchester United as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the summer window.

United are expected to focus heavily on that area after prioritising attacking and goalkeeping reinforcements over the past year, with recruitment plans now shifting toward the centre of the pitch.

Alongside Tchouameni, United have been monitoring several Premier League-based options.

Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, Carlos Baleba at Brighton and Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace have all been considered.

However, questions remain over Wharton’s fit within the current squad, given similarities to Kobbie Mainoo, who is close to agreeing a new long-term deal.

United’s recent success recruiting players with Premier League experience, including Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, has shaped their approach, though the club are also exploring options abroad.

Tchouameni situation at Real Madrid

Tchouameni, currently with Real Madrid, remains under contract until 2028 and is regarded as a key figure at the Bernabeu.

However, after a season that could end without silverware, there is an expectation of change within the squad, which may open the door to potential departures if significant offers arrive.

United were previously interested in the midfielder before his move from Monaco in 2022, but he opted to join Madrid, where he has developed into one of Europe’s leading midfielders.

Manchester United push for Champions League return

Off the pitch, United are also working toward securing Champions League football for next season.

A win against Brentford would move them closer to qualification, with just one more positive result potentially enough to seal a return to Europe’s top competition.

Financially, the club are expected to have increased flexibility this summer.

The departures of Casemiro and Jadon Sancho will ease pressure on the wage bill, while uncertainty remains over whether Barcelona will activate their option to sign Marcus Rashford.
