Jayson Tatum talks Jaylen Brown ‘dedication’ as NBA star enters Boston top 10

Jayson Tatum says Jaylen Brown is improving “each and every year” after his teammate joined him on the Boston Celtics’ all-time top-10 scorer list as part of a 120-99 NBA win over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.

Brown scored 32 points – including 23 during the first half – alongside 24 and 10 rebounds for Tatum, who was playing his seventh game since a 10-month absence for Achilles surgery.

“It just goes to show the dedication, the commitment he’s made to his craft,” Tatum said of guard Brown.

“It’s just been cool to see. I’ve seen him develop over the last nine years… and turn into the player he is now. It’s just cool when you get rewarded for the work you put in.”

Who are the Celtics’ all-time top NBA scorers?

A first-round draft for the Celtics in 2017, six-time NBA All-Star Tatum is immediately ahead of Brown in ninth among Celtics scoring luminaries.

Brown was a first-round draft the previous year, making both players part of the title-winning 2024 team.

Jayson Tatum on ‘understanding’ Robert Parish, Kevin Garnett

Robert Parish was recognized in person before the game at the TD Garden, with Tatum playing tribute to the Boston Celtics legend and fellow icons Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, whose numbers have been retired during his time with the team.

“Those were very special moments and special days,” said Tatum. “It means everything.

“I feel honored and lucky that I was just around and on the team and got to see and witness that.

“Those guys dedicated a lot to the game of basketball and this organization, so [it is pleasing] to see them come back and receive the welcome and love and appreciation that they earned and deserve.

“As a player, I understand what they went through and what goes into being an NBA player. It’s really just a cool moment to see other people receive their flowers and witness it.”
