Albacete, the conquerors of Real Madrid in the last round of the Copa del Rey, will face Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

The draw was carried out this morning and the first two teams out pitted the Segunda Division side against the Liga leaders.

There was a sense of inevitability that Barca would take on the team that stunned Madrid in Alvaro Arbeloa’s first game in charge last week.

Jefte Betancor scored the winner in the 95th-minute for Albacete to see them through 3-2.

Jefte was present to help conduct the draw and he said: “We will give it our all and put our heart and enthusiasm in front of Barça. They are a great team but we already showed we can do it against Madrid.”

Barca are the title holders after beating Madrid 3-2 in April, Jules Kounde scoring the injury-time winner in Seville.

The quarter-final draw for the Copa del Rey quarter-finals is:

Albacete v Barcelona
Alaves v Real Sociedad
Valencia v Athletic Bilbao
Real Betis v Atletico Madrid

The ties will be played between February 3 and 5.
