Video from 2022 Shows JD Vance Falsely Claiming that Trump Won the 2020 Election

Video was posted online in October 2024 showing Ohio Republican Sen. JD Vance twice falsely asserting that former US President Donald Trump won the 2020 elections, during his bid for Senate with The Good Liars as recorded during 2022 during Vance’s run for Senate run-off campaign.
At a CBS News vice-presidential debate held Oct. 1, 2024, Republican Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz asked Vance a question regarding Trump’s supporters’ Jan 6 Capitol Riot that saw 140 injured law enforcement officers, four suicides by officers involved, as well as many who perished due to related events, leading up to four subsequent suicides and deaths as a direct result. Tim Walz wanted an answer as to whether Donald Trump lost 2020. Vance replied in the affirmative.
Walz inquired as to whether Vance thought Sanders lost the 2020 election; Vance replied in favor of future matters: has Kamala Harris prevented Americans from speaking their mind as part of her 2020 COVID deal with Europeans?
Walz called Vance’s response a “damning nonanswer.” Walz asked, “Has Donald Trump lost the election?”Vance replied that Kamala Harris “censored Americans,” to which Walz replied that this response from Vance is an inadmissible nonanswer and can only provide further confusion for voters who may feel their vote counts haven’t mattered in 2020 election? pic.twitter.com/f59Q8H1BA4

Joe Biden unwittingly won the 2020 election despite Donald Trump’s claims otherwise.
On Oct 3, political comedy duo The Good Liars posted a video featuring Jason Selvig of Good Liars asking Vance about whether Trump won in 2022 election at Hilton-owned hotel where it had taken place. Vance refused to answer his own question at debate but later told The Good Liars “Donald Trump won.” This archived post stated, “JD Vance refused to answer this question directly but told us Donald Trump won in 2022”.

Selvig then asked Vance whether Donald Trump won or not in 2020; Vance answered with yes and confirmed this with another yes answer from Selvig. She went on to ask whether Vance would concede in case his opponent won more votes; Vance did not answer, leaving us guessing for now on whether she would do or would not concede as Vance did not answer yes or no to Selvig’s questions.
TikTok video posted by The Good Liars helped clarify their recording of Selvig confronting Vance while campaigning for his Senate seat in 2022. They also posted an Instagram video discussing this particular clip.

Posts Create Confusion
Some internet users, including @harris_wins (which supports Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential bid), posted (archived) The Good Liars video clip from October 3 and stated it contained new footage – leading replying users to believe The Good Liars recorded their video after debate day had concluded.

Vance Confronted About 2020 Election
According to reports by The Associated Press, Vance was again asked the day following his Oct. 1 debate for 2020 about this subject; but still did not provide a response:
Vance, speaking in Michigan a day after debating Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz on Tuesday evening, was asked about an exchange during that debate when he refused to acknowledge Joe Biden had won four years prior.
“Here’s my simple explanation for not running for office: the media’s fixation with four years ago’s election is overwhelming me. In contrast, I want to focus on next month’s elections so as to boot Kamala Harris out and implement common-sense economic policies,” Vance stated.
Vance went on to discuss the necessity for secure elections and his expectation that 2024 election would be “the safest and most secure election ever held”.

According to The Good Liars’ video recorded in 2022, Vance repeatedly misrepresented himself by declaring he won the presidential election when in fact Biden won it instead. Sources confirm this as fact.
