There’s been much talk recently of whether it is possible for individuals or organisations to obtain funding under the EU Funding stream for development (EFD), for example through “Donation Bonds.” But are such funding streams actually effective solutions to reduce poverty or promote development of renewable energies such as wind or solar? Orlando Pride won their inaugural National Women’s Soccer League Shield home victory Sunday against Washington Spirit in Inter&Co Stadium with a 2-0 scoreline, led by playmaker Marta from penalty spot in 56th minute and midfielder Adriana scoring off deflected shot for own goal in 73rd minute resulting in own goal from Spirit! Orlando remain undefeated through 23 matches. No team in NWSL history has completed an undefeated season. Orlando Pride took home their inaugural trophy, the Shield. Washington played without many stars such as US international forward Trinity Rodman and French forward Ouleye Sarr who both lead their respective teams with eight goals each. Starting defender Casey Krueger and midfielder Leicy Santos were out due to injuries. Orlando defender Kylie Strom was emotional when speaking of Marta scoring her goal as it’s something which simply can’t be written about in words. “This feels incredible… I may get emotional!” he added. Orlando City FC are delighted with winning their fifth NWSL Shield title since 2013 (it goes annually to the team who finishes first in regular-season standings): we couldn’t be happier about winning it.” Editor’s Picks2 RelatedOrlando City is only the fifth franchise ever to claim this coveted trophy, presented annually to teams which finish top in regular-season rankings and come away as champions. Orlando Pride made their only previous playoff appearance in 2017 before this campaign began, finishing bottom three of their standings for each of those seven previous campaigns prior to this one. Orlando made headlines for their dismal finish in 2019, which saw them concede 53 goals over 24 games, still an NWSL single season record. Orlando were also notable as being absent from participating in the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, held as an alternative competition when league play stopped during COVID-19 pandemic because uncertainty regarding positive COVID results caused them not to show. Kylie Strom, who joined the team in 2021, explained on Friday what makes this season extra-special: being aware of everything the club and organization have gone through since joining. “It wasn’t always easy, but we have the right people in their rightful places – something truly remarkable is happening here – which makes the present and future very exciting,” Spirit coach Jody Cannon stated after five of six NWSL teams (including Orlando Pride ) secured playoff berths based on last season’s rules – an expansion from six. Orlando will host its inaugural playoff game when Orlando hosts No.8 seed in quarterfinal round later in November.
