Montreal Canadiens players and management are looking forward to a bright new season after failing to qualify for playoffs for three straight campaigns. However, they will now be without one of their major off-season acquisitions, Patrik Laine, for two to three months due to injury. View original article to view embedded media. In February alone, Montreal Canadiens are only scheduled for eight games before taking two weeks off for 4 Nations Face-off at Bell Centre; four home and four away games including three appearances there will take place over that month alone. There are only two Saturday matches on tap this month; here are three* that fans should look forward to during February.2. San Jose Sharks Win 2024 Draft Lottery by Drafting Macklin CelebriniThe San Jose Sharks won the 2024 Draft Lottery by selecting Macklin Celebrini as their number-one selection; an 18-year old NCAA All-Star that received Hobey Baker Award last season should serve as an anchor in rebuilding Sharks lineup. Surprisingly, Montreal and San Jose split their season series during 2023-24 with both winning three of four matches to claim three victories each – Montreal winning in overtime after going 3-1 ahead at one point before losing in a shootout victory for Montreal. On February 4, San Jose will welcome Celebrini-coached Montreal into town – it will mark his inaugural appearance against an Original Six franchise! On Feb. 27, the Sharks visit the Bell Centre and allow their rookie skater to skate beneath banners honoring the club’s rich history.2. Feb 9 against Tampa Bay Lightning For the first time in 16 years, the Tampa Bay Lightning are travelling to Montreal without their all-time leading scorer Steven Stamkos since his free agency departure via free agency last July. Since their last meeting in the 2021 Stanley Cup Final, Lightning have outscored Canadiens 9-1-1 overall; including going 4-0-0 last season!1. On February 22 at Ottawa Senators: While Ottawa and Montreal may only be separated by several hours on the Trans-Canada, their fan bases don’t share an identical sentiment when it comes to competition – something evident after preseason contests between both franchises. Surprisingly, they first met back on October 12 and won’t see each other until this Feb 22 contest in Washington D.C. This could be an essential game, depending on how things unfold during the season’s first four months. Each team could be fighting hard for one of two wildcard spots and this evening’s contest may become critical in that regard. As always, when the Senators and Canadiens meet there will always be plenty of storylines to watch out for; so this could prove one of the month’s key games.
