As is our pattern this time of year, we’d like to express our gratitude for the many Herb Society of America Blog readers all over the world. Our goal is to highlight as many areas of herbal enthusiasm as we can that resonate with our readers in the time and space allotted. And believe me, there is no shortage of topics to discuss! Just today, Erin (co-blogmaster and National Herb Garden horticulturist), one of our garden volunteers, and I were discussing the virtues and vices of natural dyeing with different fabrics and plant material. The volunteer mentioned dyeing with mushrooms, and Erin lit up with nerdy plant-person joy. (She loves mushrooms—and yes, we know mushrooms aren’t technically plants, but who’s getting nerdy now?!) This kind of conversation is just your run-of-the-mill banter between friends, you know—well, maybe only with herbal friends, because in reality, nobody else knows what you’re on about. But, you get my drift. And, of course you get it, because you’re herbal friends as well! We are so grateful to have you in the fold.

Not only is he a chef, professor, and restaurateur, but he’s also beloved in Texas culinary circles, because he celebrates the complexity and sizzle of the bold, peppery side of the herb garden.

Oh, and one more thing to be grateful for: This blog is getting a refresh! The blog was started waaay back in 2013 and was getting a bit tired. So, everyone decided it was time for a good “pillow fluffing.” The Herb Society administration, along with talented members of a contract team, have worked tirelessly to update and streamline the blog’s look and content. Don’t worry. All of your favorite past articles have been archived and will be searchable, so nothing is lost to cyberspace. Look for the unveiling during the month of December. We hope the new format helps you find more fun things to share with your herbal friends.
