“Major League Baseball teams are not allowed to trade draft picks due to a rule established in 1965.”

This rule was established before free agency and needs to be reversed. Rebuilding teams could improve much more quickly if they would be allowed to trade their draft picks for established major league talent.

The White Sox have Colson Montgomery at SS right now and Billy Carlson coming up in a couple of years (probably causing Montgomery to move to 3B or 1B). The best players in this year’s draft are all short stops. It’s too bad the Sox aren’t allowed to trade this draft pick for an MLB ready outfielder who could start this season.
