Anthony Richardson was selected fourth overall by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2023 NFL Draft as the franchise’s long-term quarterback prospect. Injuries have limited his availability since entering the league, with only 17 appearances and 15 starts to his name and none this season.

Daniel Jones has secured the starting role for the current campaign, leading the Colts to an 8-3 record and first place in the AFC South. The shift has sparked increased trade speculation surrounding Richardson’s future. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Richardson is reportedly open to being traded to a team that runs an offense similar to the Minnesota Vikings or Los Angeles Rams.

“Colts QB Anthony Richardson would be open to a trade to a team that runs an offense similar to the #Vikings or #Rams, per Jeremy Fowler. ‘Richardson has interest in playing for a coach from the Sean McVay tree, either the man himself or a disciple like O’Connell,’” the report stated.

The Vikings have emerged as a natural fit in these conversations. J.J. McCarthy has not yet locked down the starting job despite the team’s public backing.

Moreover, Minnesota’s offensive weapons, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison among them, create an environment where Richardson could develop quickly. A trade would cost significantly less than acquiring a mid-tier veteran quarterback.

Richardson enters the final season of his $34 million rookie deal in 2026, with his future team able to exercise the fifth-year option standard on first-round contracts.

He signed a four-year, $36,874,031 contract with the Indianapolis Colts featuring a $23,817,477 signing bonus and carries a $6,704,369 cap figure for the 2023 season. The Colts hold the decision on that fifth-year option in 2026.
