Post
by lemonPepper »
I’ve poked across the web site for atleast half-hour. I managed to show off dividend reinvestment within the private brokerage, however couldn’t do it within the employer plan. I am questioning if anybody is aware of how to do this.
I may name Vanguard, however I’ve learn they don’t seem to be nice at customer support.

Thanks.. that is what I should do. I’ve VTSAX (US Complete inventory) in my brokerage and VINIX Vanguard Institutional Index Fund Institutional Shares (S&P 500). I am exchanging VTSAX to VFIAX
Vanguard 500 Index Fund Admiral Shares.
I should preserve a detailed watch on what will get reinvested.

It seems to me that one can’t have a wash sale with a taxable account and a 401K. I’m not giving tax recommendation, and that is outdoors my space of experience.
52% TSM, 23% TISM, 24.5% TBM, 0.5% money

I exchanged VTSAX into VLCAX in 2009. I really don’t personal any shares in an S&P500 index fund. Possibly you may strive one thing comparable?
I did not know in 2009 that VLCAX would outperform VTSAX and solely barely underperfrom VFIAX since I made the trade.

If you happen to have a look at the IRS publication 550 about wash gross sales it lists IRAs and Roth IRAs however not 401Ks. You possibly can determine what you do with that data.It seems to me that one can’t have a wash sale with a taxable account and a 401K. I’m not giving tax recommendation, and that is outdoors my space of experience.
And this thread is among the many causes most individuals agree together with your opinion. You shouldn’t have management nor alternative of funding selections, timing, reinvestment choices, and many others.

Observe additionally that you just most likely can’t specify which shares get bought in an IRA or 401K. The oldest shares are normally bought first (FIFO).

You might be promoting VTSAX for the loss, proper? If you’re not shopping for a category of Complete Inventory market index in any of your different accounts, what’s triggering the wash sale?

You might be proper.. I did not suppose via this.
For some unusual cause, the employer plans we’ve haven’t got a complete market fund, so we’re in S&P 500, in these plans. So there may be nothign to set off a wash sale. If I finally convert from S&P 500 to whole market, then I might want to be careful.

Okay, that’s what I used to be pondering. Because of this I preserve VTSAX within the Roth IRA and VFINX within the taxable. I even have the Institutional Index class VIIIX within the 401k as a CIT.
I did have one final query. On the VTSAX you’re looking at harvesting for a loss, on 07/16/24 VTSAX reached an inception excessive NAV value of $135.84 and is presently simply 3.13 p.c beneath that all-time excessive value at at the moment’s shut of $131.59. Until you acquire a major quantity in July, the place is the loss coming from?

However upon getting VFIAX in taxable, you’re vulnerable to a wash sale sooner or later. Why not simply use VLCAX in taxable to keep away from all these problems? It’s a bit nearer to VTSAX too.
