The Washington Commanders lost much more than just a game in Week 10. They will also be without one of their prime players in Week 11.
According to insider Nicki Jhabvala, the NFL has suspended veteran defensive tackle Daron Payne for one game. That comes after he punched Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown in the Commanders’ loss.
St. Brown caught a touchdown pass from Jared Goff in the first quarter. He then celebrated, which led to Payne’s actions.

According to Commanders defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, St. Brown actually threw the first punch, and Payne was retaliating. Even so, he was the only one ejected and punished.
Payne can appeal the suspension. Otherwise, he’s going to be out for the Commanders’ home game against the Miami Dolphins.
That would be troublesome for a team that has had serious issues stopping the run. With Dolphins running back De’Von Achane fresh off a big game in a victory against the Buffalo Bills, Miami could be salvaging its season.
The Commanders have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL after reaching the NFC Championship Game last season. With quarterback Jayden Daniels sidelined by an elbow injury, it’s hard to believe things will get much better anytime soon.
After its bye week, Washington will play the Denver Broncos, and it has two games remaining against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
