The Seattle Seahawks made a big gamble this offseason.
Not only did they trade away quarterback Geno Smith, but they also moved on from wide receivers D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
Fast forward to today, and that was the right decision.
Quarterback Sam Darnold has been lighting up opposing defenses, and he’s proving that last year’s success with the Minnesota Vikings wasn’t a fluke.
Moreover, his chemistry with Jaxon Smith-Njigba has the young wideout on pace for an unprecedented milestone.

Perhaps the most impressive part of Smith-Njigba’s breakout season is the fact that he’s not playing in the slot as much as he did with Metcalf and Lockett as teammates.
He’s also doing damage lining up wide, proving that he can do it all and showing one of the most complete route trees in the NFL.
The Seahawks were always high on the first-round pick from the 2023 NFL Draft.
They knew that he wasn’t going to see as many targets as he needed if he kept sharing the field with two veterans.
After eight games as the WR1, he has proven that he can excel as the primary weapon with 948 receiving yards in eight games.
Of course, there’s plenty of football to be played, and keeping up that production will be easier said than done.
But Calvin Johnson’s single-season record of 1,964 yards, set with the Detroit Lions in 2012, may be within reach.
