Steelers Reportedly ‘Bracing’ For Loss Of Veteran Defender

When it rains, it pours for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mike Tomlin’s defense was shaky as it is, and it will now be without DeShon Elliott going forward.

“The Steelers are bracing for safety DeShon Elliott to miss the rest of the season, per sources. His ACL is intact and he’s working through the nature of the leg injury, so Pittsburgh will hold out hope, but a return is not considered likely at this point,” Jeremy Fowler wrote on X.

That’s clearly a setback to their playoff aspirations.

Fortunately, it happened before the NFL trade deadline.

The Steelers were very aggressive and made big moves this offseason.

Trading for D.K. Metcalf and Jalen Ramsey and signing Aaron Rodgers aren’t the type of moves rebuilding teams usually make.

They clearly believe their Super Bowl window is open, and as such, they may want to capitalize by adding talent while they still can.

The Steelers are atop the AFC North, but the Baltimore Ravens will get Lamar Jackson back from injury soon.

Considering that, Pittsburgh can’t afford to rest on its laurels and watch its division rivals get better.

The Steelers used to take pride in their ability to slow down opponents with a gritty and physical defense.

That hasn’t been the case this season, and they’ve allowed four consecutive quarterbacks to put up their season high in passing yards.

But if someone can find a solution, it’s an experienced defensive guru like Tomlin.
